Growing notes
- Native to coastal grassland of the Eastern Cape of South Africa
- WARNING: Listed INVASIVE in parts of Australia (especially Victoria, Tasmania, NSW) and California — escapes gardens via seed and rhizome fragments, do not plant where it can escape into natural areas; sterile cultivars (e.g. ‘Black Pantha’) are safer where available
- Distinct from Agapanthus africanus already in the database (`agapanthus` base and `agapanthus-africanus` batch 6) — A. praecox is larger, evergreen, and the species most commonly sold as "agapanthus" in cultivation
- Drought tolerant once established
