Growing notes
- Native to southern Japan — Honshū, Shikoku, Kyūshū
- Distinct from the base camellia entry (C. japonica, already in the database) and from the tea plant (C. sinensis) — sasanqua flowers earlier (autumn) and has smaller looser flowers
- Tolerates more sun than C. japonica — useful for sunny hedging in mild climates
- Hedge well — among the best evergreen hedging shrubs for mild gardens
