Growing notes
- Heartwood — extremely oily, rot-resistant, sweet-scented, golden-yellow — historically the premier Tasmanian boat-building timber, still highly prized for fine joinery, turning, and craft
- WARNING: Tightly protected — wild logging banned since 1971, modern use restricted to salvaged logs from historic stocks, river retrievals, and a small specialist plantation. Source only from certified Tasmanian dealers
- Among the longest-lived trees in the world — confirmed specimens at Mt Read in Tasmania are over 2,500 years old, with associated clonal stand estimated at 10,000+ years
- Endemic to wet cool western Tasmania — does not transplant well outside that habitat
