Lavatera × clementii

Vigorous shrubby mallow hybrid with grey-green palmate leaves and continuous large pink, white, or magenta hibiscus-like flowers from early summer well into autumn.

Growing notes

  • Plant in sunny mixed borders and cottage gardens — fast growing and free-flowering, fills a 2 m × 2 m space in a couple of years
  • Excellent forage for bumblebees and honey bees
  • Short-lived — typically 5–7 years, replace from cuttings every few years
  • Cut back hard in late winter for compact bushy regrowth
