Growing notes

  • Plant as a specimen or in mass plantings — fine-textured habit and reliable autumn plumes
  • WARNING: Listed INVASIVE in parts of the eastern United States — fertile cultivars self-seed widely into natural areas, prefer sterile cultivars (‘Adagio’, ‘Morning Light’) or do not plant outside hardiness zones where flowering is unreliable
  • Distinct from the base Miscanthus sinensis already in the database — ‘Gracillimus’ is the most widely planted cultivar
  • Cut down to ground level in late winter before new growth emerges
