- Chalk-white bloomed winter stems — among the most arresting white-stemmed plants in cultivation, peaks in winter when the leaves are gone
- Coppice or hard prune in late winter every year for the strongest white bloom on vigorous new shoots
- Vigorous and prickly — site away from paths and where space allows it to arch freely
- Cultivar ‘Goldenvale’ has the additional bonus of yellow summer foliage
