Chinese bramble with arching stems heavily dusted in chalk-white bloom, particularly striking when leafless in winter. The bloom rubs off if handled.

Growing notes

  • Chalk-white bloomed winter stems — among the most arresting white-stemmed plants in cultivation, peaks in winter when the leaves are gone
  • Coppice or hard prune in late winter every year for the strongest white bloom on vigorous new shoots
  • Vigorous and prickly — site away from paths and where space allows it to arch freely
  • Cultivar ‘Goldenvale’ has the additional bonus of yellow summer foliage
