- Flowers in February and March in much of the Northern Hemisphere — slightly later than ‘Pallida’ or ‘Jelena’, making it the bridge between deep winter and early spring
- Strongly fragrant on warm afternoons — the scent is a key seasonal marker
- Prefers neutral to acidic soil and a position where the flowers are caught by low winter sun
- Needs winter chilling — unreliable in ANBG zones 4 and above
