Aromatic wetland shrub of UK and northern European bogs. Used to flavour beer (gruit) before hops became standard, and a traditional Scottish midge repellent.

  • Extremely cold hardy — survives subarctic conditions
  • Foliage rubbed on skin acts as a natural midge repellent in Scottish Highlands tradition
