Low-growing South African coastal perennial with rosettes of silver-backed grey-green leaves and large brilliant daisy flowers in orange, yellow, pink, or red. Often grown as an annual outside mild climates.

- Native to coastal South Africa — adapted to sandy soils and intense sun
- WARNING: Listed INVASIVE in parts of southern Australia (especially Victoria, South Australia) and southern California — colonises coastal dunes and roadside verges, do not plant where it can escape
- Drought tolerant and salt tolerant — premier hot-dry coastal bedding plant within its appropriate range
- Flowers close in dull weather and at night — full sun essential for display
