Growing notes
- Flowers August–October — runs through the autumn equinox, often the last major herbaceous flowering before frost
- Tolerates shade better than most autumn-flowering perennials
- Spreads by rhizomes — can be invasive in rich moist soils, plant only where space allows
- Once established, very long lived and reliable
